The online Application for reduction or retired membership, including criteria, is available below.

Delivering what matters most to members

This year we provided a breadth of initiatives and member services, including:

Hear from members on their experiences with CPA Australia's new initiatives.

In 2021, we will continue to deliver further initiatives, professional development, resources and more for our members, supporting you throughout your lifelong journey with CPA Australia.

Reduction in fees due to changed employment status

As a CPA or FCPA paying the full membership fee, there are a range of reasons you may be eligible for a 50% reduction in your membership fee. You may have been out of the workforce for a substantial period due to unemployment or family care responsibilities, be working part time on significantly reduced hours or be enjoying family time on unpaid parental leave, along with a myriad of other circumstances that may impact your ability to work or earn an income.

To apply for a membership fee reduction, please complete the online form prior to payment of your annual membership fee. Membership fee reductions are granted at the discretion of CPA Australia and expire at the end of the membership year.

The information requested in the online form will help us to understand your individual circumstances and the impact on your ability to fully fund your membership renewal for the coming year. Membership fee reductions are granted based on the evidence provided and evaluation of both your recent past and current working circumstances, and not granted based on an expected impact in the future.

Your application will require you to provide information about:

  • dates and reasoning for any period that you have been away from the workforce in the past 12 months
  • details of any employment during the past 12 months, including the number of hours (can be an average) and the type of work (part-time, casual, contract, etc.)
  • any other information or supporting documentation that would assist CPA Australia in reaching a decision, for example, a medical certificate.

To ensure a fair and informed assessment on all applications, we may ask you to provide additional information and/or supporting documents regarding your claim.

Members on a reduced membership fee retain all the privileges of membership and, if selected for a CPD audit can also apply for a reduction in their CPD requirement.

Retired, or transitioning to retirement

CPA Australia offers a retired status for members who are no longer working or are working substantially reduced hours as they transition to retirement.

To be eligible, you must:

  • have reached the age of 55 years
  • no longer be engaged in full time, gainful employment or business (other than minor part-time activities not exceeding 15 hours per week)
  • no longer hold a specialist certificate.

Retired members maintain all the benefits of membership at a considerably discounted fee, and enjoy a range of discounts on events throughout the year.

There is no requirement to maintain CPD hours, unless you are providing any public accounting services, for the avoidance of doubt, including pro bono work.

If you are nearing retirement, find out how your CPA Australia membership can support you.

You can apply for a transfer to the retired members list at any time throughout the year by completing the online application form.

Complimentary Professional Development

All CPA Australia members are able to enrol in complimentary professional development courses. Courses can be accessed anytime, anywhere and on any device.
